Happy International Day of Women Judges! Today, we celebrate the many talented and capable New American and BIPOC women judges who serve and represent their communities all across the country. We also celebrate the recent efforts to reshape the federal judiciary with diverse and qualified judges: Of the judges appointed by President Biden in the past two years, 75% are women, 47% are women of color, and 67% are people of color. We love to see it! 🙌

This week, we learned that the Biden administration is considering reinstating the policy of detaining migrant families who cross the border illegally, which President Biden had previously ended. This policy is unjust and wrong, and we must reject it under the current administration as we did under Trump's. Migrants deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and to be met with our welcome, not cages. It’s important that our elected officials keep speaking out against this cruel policy and advocating for meaningful immigration reform.

The U.S. Office of Management and Budget is considering adding a Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) category to government forms.

Submit a comment to the OMB asking them to do this because having a MENA category will give MENA communities equitable access to funding and data for better health, housing, school, and employment opportunities.

Somehow, it’s already March 🤯—and we’re also having a hard time believing that our first training of the year, our Ready to Lead: Midwest training in Detroit, Michigan, happened two weeks ago!

Ready to Lead: Midwest brought together a diverse group of emerging New American leaders from across the region to share their stories, build relationships, and develop the skills necessary to run for office and lead in their communities. The energy and enthusiasm in the room was palpable, and we can't wait to see the impact these leaders will make. A huge thanks to everyone who made Ready to Lead: Midwest a success!

Looking ahead, the next NAL training is our Ready to Lead: National Women’s Training in Phoenix, Arizona on March 24-26. We can’t wait to meet our newest cohort of amazing New American women leaders (stay tuned for more updates about how you can follow along with the training and check out some photos of our previous New American women cohorts).

Following the Ready to Lead: National Women’s Training is our Ready to Lead: AAPI Rising training in the Washington, D.C. area on April 28-30. We encourage anyone who identifies as an Asian American or Pacific Islander and is ready to take the next step in their leadership journey and run for office to apply to take the training.

AAPI voices are key to building a better democracy, and we want to provide AAPI leaders with the tools, resources, and networks they need to lead effectively.

So, apply today to take our Ready to Lead: AAPI Rising training in the Washington, D.C. area on April 28-30, but first, come to our info session on Monday, March 13th at 8 p.m. ET to learn more! (And please share this info with anyone you think should take the training!)
