My work in TX-31 and Congress Howdy Texan, I’m about to hop on the plane back to Texas, so I wanted to send you a quick update on my work in Congress and TX-31. ON THE DOCKET: Defense Communities National Summit Votes this Week Biden’s Budget Call with Secretary Wormuth DEFENSE COMMUNITIES NATIONAL SUMMIT I recently sat down to discuss my focus as Chairman of the House Appropriations Military Construction and Veteran Affairs Subcommittee at the Association of Defense Communities National Summit. I’m focused on investing in military assets in the Pacific region to deter China’s aggression and improving quality of life for our service members and veterans. America’s military needs our support to continue doing their jobs, especially in the face of emboldened adversaries like China. We also must fulfill our promise to our veterans. While there is a lot of work to be done as we develop the 2024 funding bill, I am committed to being a good steward of your hard-earned tax dollars and conducting thorough oversight to ensure they are being used efficiently. VOTES THIS WEEK Protecting Speech from Government Interference Act I voted in support of the Protecting Speech from Government Interference Act to protect Americans’ constitutional right to free speech. Biden and the far left have used Big Tech to weaponize the federal government for too long. Americans deserve a future that’s built on FREEDOM, not government censorship! Biden’s WOTUS Rule I voted to nullify the Biden administration’s misguided Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule. Biden’s rule makes sweeping changes to the federal government’s authority to regulate navigable water, with enormous impacts on small businesses, manufacturers, farmers, builders, local communities, water districts, and private property owners. The COVID-19 Origin Act of 2023 I voted in support of the COVID-19 Origin Act, which will declassify all information on the origin of the virus. Transparency is long overdue. BIDEN’S BUDGET In 2022, the government collected the highest total revenue in its history from Americans’ pocketbooks. This week, President Biden released his budget, calling for MORE new spending. He wants to increase non-defense spending by 8%! As a conservative on the Appropriations Committee, I’ll be working with Chairwoman Kay Granger to find responsible ways to lower unnecessary spending and tackle our nation’s debt. CALL WITH SECRETARY WORMUTH I had a call with Army Secretary Christine Wormuth, General James McConville and my co-chair of the Army Caucus, Representative Dutch Ruppersberger to discuss the Army’s new ‘Be All You Can Be’ campaign and priorities for the future. It is a privilege to work with Army leadership and my bipartisan colleagues to make sure our soldiers have the resources they need to be successful on and off the battlefield! As always, thank you for taking the time to stay updated on what's happening in Texas' 31st congressional district. Follow my Facebook and Twitter accounts for more updates. It is an honor and privilege to represent you and Texas in the United States House. Sincerely, John R. Carter Visit our website! WC Willamson County 4411 S I 35 Frontage Rd.
