WOTUS is nothing more than a power grab which would impose more stringent restrictions on landowners. Fighting for Freedom and Standing Up Against Government Overreach in Rural America This week, I voted to pass a joint resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) on the Biden Administration's flawed and burdensome "Waters of the United States" (WOTUS) rule. As a third-generation hops and grape farmer, access to clean air and water has always been a priority for me. However, that is not what WOTUS is about. It would give the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) unprecedented control over private land, and this sort of overreach from unelected officials is unacceptable. Our nation's agricultural industry has successfully self-regulated and innovated over the years, yet this administration is willing to overlook all their hard work. Trampling on private property rights is not the solution. WOTUS is nothing more than a power grab which would impose more stringent restrictions on landowners. Rural communities in Central Washington and across the country are dedicated to clean water, but they are the ones who are being punished. While I am disappointed by this administration's dismissal of the valid concerns voiced by our rural communities, I remain committed to fighting for them. Watch My Response on YouTube 2023 Veterans Service Fair I am proud to announce the 2023 Veterans Service Fair for all Central Washington veterans and their families! As your representative in Congress, I have worked hard to be an advocate for our veterans. Every year, I host a Veterans Service Fair so Central Washington's veterans can explore the resources available to them throughout our region; it is the least we can do to thank them for their service to our country. This year's Veterans Service Fair will take place on April 22nd from 10 AM - 2 PM at the Yakima Convention and Event Center. There will be space for vendors, so be sure to click the button below for more information and to RSVP. Click Here for More Information More Reckless Spending from the Biden Administration This week, the Biden Administration released their budget proposal and it is nothing short of irresponsible. After years of wasteful government spending and passing trillions of dollars in new deficit that we simply cannot afford, the numbers have come out. With this new budget, the national debt will balloon to nearly twice the size of the entire economy, and over the next ten years will accrue over $10 trillion in interest alone. This new budget proposal is fundamentally unserious and absolutely careless. Due to inflation, the American economy is suffering, and now the Biden Administration proposes we continue to spend recklessly? For every dollar the IRS collects from the American taxpayer, this administration spends $1.29. Basic economics show that we are simply hemorrhaging money, and something needs to be done. Unfortunately, these ridiculous proposals continue to delay negotiations on spending and are contributing to our inflationary crisis. It's time we cut wasteful government spending and get serious about solving this growing issue. It's About Time: Demanding the Truth About the Origins of COVID-19 Nearly three years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are still asking for transparency about the origins of the deadly virus that killed millions and shuttered small businesses across Central Washington. After years of attempts to dismiss the growing evidence that the virus originated at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the U.S. Department of Energy and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have concluded that the virus likely originated from a lab leak in Wuhan, China. The American people deserve to know the truth about this deadly pandemic so we can hold the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) accountable and prevent a catastrophe like this from ever happening again. Legitimacy must always prevail, and I will do everything in my power to ensure the CCP is held responsible. Based in Winthrop, these bright young minds traveled to meet me in Washington, D.C. to discuss the legislative process, ask questions, and demonstrate the accessibility of democratic government. The Close Up program seeks to educate and inspire students by providing them with the skills and experience they need to meaningfully participate in our democracy. Encouraging active participation in the civic process is vital, and I am optimistic that the next generation of voters will be engaged. Meeting with the Hop Growers of America I met with the Hop Growers of America this week to discuss the future of the hops industry and concerns of current growers. As a hop grower myself, I know first-hand the struggles and opportunities for our industry. The United States leads the world in hops production, and brewery growth drives the success of the industry. Continued research and education in this field is important to stay competitive, and as a third-generation hops farmer, I remain committed to advocating for common-sense initiatives in Congress.
