It was another busy week—but I was grateful for the opportunity to spend time with families, local organizations, and some of my strongest partners both in Rochester and in Washington. Read more below.

Remembering Rochester's Trailblazing History

One of my favorite places in the Capitol is the Rotunda, which is filled with statues paying homage to the great leaders of our past—including courageous women like Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Rochester’s own Susan B. Anthony. As we continue our celebration of Women’s History Month, I felt it was only fitting to take time to honor these women and their profound contributions to advancing women's rights. Their legacy inspires me every single day to continue the fight for true equality and fulfil Susan B. Anthony’s famous motto: “women, their rights, and nothing less.”

Honoring Local Heroes

Rep. Morelle presents a certificate to the East Rochester Fire Department

Our brave first responders represent the very best of our community, and I am grateful for every opportunity to show my appreciation for their dedicated work. This past weekend, I was honored to join the East Rochester Fire Department—the “Home of Champions”—for their annual banquet. It was a privilege to be able to thank these hardworking men and women and present them with a certificate in celebration of their 125 years of service to our community.

Meeting with Community Advocates

One of my most important responsibilities as an elected official is to respond to the needs of our community, which is why I spend a great deal of time meeting with and listening to local families, organizations, and businesses.

Rep. Morelle meets with members of the JCC in Rochester

On Monday, I began my week with members of the JCC in Rochester. I was proud to give them an update on the work I’m doing in Washington, particularly to support and uplift our Jewish community, and gain their insights on how we can continue our work together. The JCC is a critical asset for so many in our community, and I’m deeply grateful for their partnership.

When I returned to Washington, I was honored to spend with representatives from the Veterans of Foreign Wars and reaffirm my ongoing commitment to supporting our nation's brave veterans. I look forward to building on the progress of last year’s Honoring Our PACT Act—legislation I helped pass—and continue working to ensure veterans and their families have access to the full benefits they have earned.

I also met with members of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists to discuss our mutual commitment to reducing maternal mortality, addressing disparities, and improving outcomes for pregnant women and young families—especially in underserved communities. I’m grateful for their continued partnership on these important issues, and I look forward to our continued work together.

One of my top priorities is making quality, affordable healthcare accessible for our families—and I'm proud to have the team at Anthony Jordan Health Center working with me to make it a reality. They’ve been steadfast partners in this effort, and it was a privilege to meet with them in Washington to discuss ways to advance our shared goals.

Advancing Innovation in Rochester

Rep. Morelle meets with Dr. Panchanathan

One of the many things that makes our community so special is our unique talent and expertise in high-tech innovation—which puts us in a strong position to lead our economy into the future. In Congress, I’m proud to do my part and build on the existing efforts of our skilled labor force, world-class universities, and manufacturing institutions to make this possible.

This week, I had the opportunity to visit the National Science Foundation and get a tour of their facility from Director Dr. Sethuraman Panchanathan, who I had the privilege of hosting in Rochester just last year. During the tour, we discussed how we can continue working together to strengthen our STEM workforce, enhance America’s global competitiveness against countries like China, and grow Rochester’s role as a leader in the innovation economy.

I look forward to our continued partnership—and I cannot wait to welcome Dr. Panchanathan back to Rochester soon!
