WEEK IN REVIEW

Dear Friend,

I hope you had a great week. It’s been a busy time in Washington, and while I’ve spent a lot of my time fulfilling my obligation as a juror in the ongoing impeachment trial process in the Senate, I’m continuing to work hard on behalf of Iowans and to deliver results for our state. Here’s a quick snapshot from the past week

Replacing Obama’s Harmful WOTUS Rule

This week, the Trump Administration officially announced the replacement to the Obama-era 2015 “Waters of the U.S.,” or “WOTUS,” rule—one that clearly defines what is, and what isn’t, a federally regulated waterway.

For years, Iowans have told me what an egregious overreach Obama’s WOTUS rule was, giving the federal government authority to regulate 97 percent of the land in Iowa. That’s absurd, and it’s why I’ve worked hard to get rid of it.

After working relentlessly alongside the Trump Administration, I’m proud that we’ve successfully scrapped this Obama-era rule and are now providing the predictability and certainty our hardworking farmers, manufacturers, and landowners in Iowa deserve.

Under President Trump’s leadership, we’ve fought to get the government off the backs of farmers and business owners and have had major wins on trade – like the USMCA, the phase one China deal, and the Japan agreement – all of which are spurring a sense of optimism and economic growth across rural America.

Officially Sending USMCA to President Trump’s Desk

After fighting relentlessly for more than a year to force House Democrats to finally move on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), and after voting to pass the trade deal out of the Senate last week, I joined Senator Chuck Grassley, president pro tempore of the Senate, for the official bill enrollment ceremony to send the USMCA to the president’s desk for his signature.

At the ceremony, I highlighted how this major win will help Iowa’s farmers, manufacturers, and small businesses. KCRG-TV covered the signing ceremony.

Hosting Iowans in DC for the March for Life

Yesterday marked the 47th annual March for Life, a day when countless Americans across our nation, including many Iowans, show their support in defending life.

Every year I’m encouraged to see the enthusiasm and goodwill this special event brings. In fact, I hosted hundreds of Iowans in Washington, D.C. before the march began!
