Olympia Watch

This Wednesday was one of this session's major deadlines. 5PM on Wednesday was the cutoff for legislative proposals to pass their house of origin. Any bills that did not pass out of their house of origin are considered dead for this session.

Republicans saw some major successes leading up to this cutoff time - including keeping the Senate version of Police Pursuit alive for continued debate throughout this years' session and killing HB 1333, the Attorney General's plan to institute a domestic extremism panel to stifle Washingtonian's first amendment rights.

Other major success include:
  • HB 1025 is considered dead. This bill would have removed qualified immunity from police officers and been detrimental to public safety.
  • HB 1670 is considered dead. This bill was never pulled out of rules for a vote on the floor. It would have allowed for local governments to increase property taxes up to 3 times more than voters approved through citizen initiative.
  • HB 1832 is considered dead. This bill would have started a Pay Per Mile pilot program and paved the way for full adoption by 2030.
  • SB 5209 is considered dead. This bill would have made voting mandatory.
However, Democrats were still able to push through a number of bad bills. These include:

It is hard to find unbiased news in the area, especially when news organizations like the Seattle Times are going even further to the left. We'd recommend checking out The Center Square - a source of unbiased news in the Pacific Northwest!
