Friend, as you may have heard, former South Carolina
Governor and Trump administration official Nikki Haley recently announced her
bid for the White House in 2024.
Although there are many, here are 5 things you should know about GOP candidate
Nikki Haley:
1. During her time in the South Carolina General Assembly, Haley sponsored and
voted to pass the “Illegal Immigration Reform Act,” which required people to prove their lawful presence in the U.S. to receive
public benefits, prohibited undocumented immigrants from attending state
universities or receiving state-funded scholarships, and imposed new
immigration requirements on employers.
2.
3. Modeled after Arizona’s notorious “Show Me Your Papers” law, Haley signed a law that allowed local police to check any one’s immigration
status during routine traffic stops based on “reasonable suspicion,” essentially an open invitation for
officers to racially profile drivers. After drawing immense backlash and
receiving legal challenges, the law was almost entirely struck down by a
federal judge.
4.
5. In July 2014, she asked the DHS Secretary to bar unaccompanied migrant children from being
sheltered in South Carolina in order to “protect” the state.
6.
7. As governor, Haley also sued the Obama administration for its executive order protecting
undocumented immigrants from deportation and extending the right to work.
8.
9. Later, as Trump’s United Nations Ambassador, she defended Trump’s xenophobic Muslim and African Bans, which restricted U.S.
entry to thousands of people and separated families.
There’s no denying that a Haley administration would put immigrant communities
in danger. That’s why we are working hard to ensure Nikki Haley does not get
anywhere near the Oval Office. Friend, will you donate $5 or more to help our work to
defeat extreme candidates like Nikki Haley and Donald Trump and the GOP’s
dangerous anti-immigrant agenda — and support our work to increase the political
power of immigrants across the country?
