#LowcountryFirst Pass In Review | March 10, 2023 Bills, Bills, & More Bills! Hello and happy Friday! We’ve spent the week freezing in DC while everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather in the Lowcountry - jealous! We kicked off the week on Fox News to discuss another train derailment. To watch the clip, look here. Tuesday we met with President Hsu of the College of Charleston to get an update on the College. This week, the men’s basketball team played in the CAA Championship in DC and WON! They are now heading to March Madness! Wednesday, we welcomed Dr. Arthur Keiser and Belinda Keiser from Southeastern College to our DC office. We also welcomed Henry Lewis, the Executive Director of the South Carolina EMS Association. Wednesday was a big day for us - Chaired the first Oversight Subcommittee hearing on Tech and Innovation, titled “Advances in AI: Are we ready for the Tech Revolution?” We had a series of brilliant minds, including Dr. Eric Schmidt, Dr. Aleksander Madry, Dr. Scott Crowder, and Merve Hickok. To watch the hearing, look here. Thursday we welcomed SEAL Team Six into our office, and we had discussions on the future of cannabis. Later Thursday we had an Intelligence and Special Operations Subcommittee hearing on U.S. Special Operations Forces Command - Challenges and Resource Priorities for Fiscal Year 2024. Also on Thursday, we joined the Oversight Committee hearing titled “Oversight of Our Nation’s Largest Employer: Reviewing the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.” Questioned the Director of the Office of Personnel Management if she knew what happened when someone doesn’t show up to work - she didn’t know. Throughout the week our office dropped a series of bills including Violet’s Law, the Breakthrough Therapies Act, Identifying and Eliminating Wasteful Programs Act, Greater Options to Contraceptive Options Act, and the Child Milk Act.
