No one should have to forego medical care for the sake of financial stability.
Friend,
Credit scores have an impact on some of the most fundamental elements of adult life. Whether you’re looking to purchase a house or a car, pursue a college education, enroll in insurance, or start a small business, a good credit score is often the deciding factor.
Yet for many Americans, particularly in the South, unpaid medical debt has resulted in low credit scores that prevent people from obtaining loans or forcing them to pay higher interest rates. A recent study found a strong correlation between counties with the largest amount of unpaid medical debt and the lowest average credit scores. In other words, Americans are being held back because they can’t afford life-saving medical treatments, in a region that has consistently failed to expand Medicaid for lower-income communities.
Tell Congress: Forgive medical debt and give Americans back their borrowing power.
Through no fault of their own, millions of people in the South are being punished for seeking unforeseen, life-saving treatment that was simply priced too high. Unpaid medical debt is an undue burden that Congress has the power to eradicate.
Sign if you agree: No one should have to forego medical care for the sake of financial stability.
In solidarity,
Ro
