With no shortage of rising crises on the global stage, it’s important to unpack the Administration’s annual budget request from this week, which begins the annual negotiations process with Capitol Hill. It impacts not only global stability, but ultimately stability here at home.

Earlier this week, nearly 20 former Combatant and Special Forces Commanders wrote to Congress on the importance of resources for America’s civilian national security toolkit to “reduce threats before they reach our shores.” The important letter – covered by POLITICO – included Admiral Stavridis alongside Generals Zinni and Petraeus, who added that “shortchanging our investment in these critical tools is dangerous to our own national interests.”
