The Congressional Review Act resolution will hurt efforts to restore protections for rivers, streams, and wetlands. Clean water is a fundamental right, which is why I support rules that protect our water and provide certainty for businesses, local governments, farmers, hunters and fishers, and all Americans who depend on clean water.
In my Energy and Commerce Committee, Republicans advanced bills that reward Big Oil and polluters at the expense of Americans’ health and safety. The anti-environmental bills they advanced would endanger the health and safety of the communities I represent by circumventing the consideration of safer technologies to avoid chemical disasters and prevent toxic chemical exposure.
Other bills would repeal programs in the Inflation Reduction Act that would reduce pollution, lower the deficit, and help us advance our transition to clean energy.
These bills make clear that Republicans refuse to hold polluters accountable for the damage they cause to our air, our water, our communities, and our climate.
Democrats are working to build on the progress we’ve made and to invest in the health and well-being of the American people. We stand ready to work together to fulfill these goals, but we will vigorously oppose Republicans’ efforts to imperil our economy and undermine the health care and environmental protections that we fought so hard to enact.
