Dear Friends,

It has been another busy week in St. Paul! The House Republicans announced a tax plan that would return over $13 billion to the taxpayers over two years, the plastic water bottle ban gained traction in the Senate, and my colleague Rep. Bliss introduced a bill that would require members who introduce gun control bills to have knowledge of firearms. Read more about each of these topics below:

Republican Tax Plan

House Republicans introduced our ?Give it Back? tax plan that would return over $13 billion in tax relief over two years.

Some highlights of the plan include:

* Fully eliminating the tax on Social Security
* A one-time child tax credit that would be available for two years
* Slashing the first tax bracket by 1%
* Slashing the second tax bracket by 1%
* An adjustment?of the homestead market value exclusion would give $35?million?a year.

With an $18 billion surplus, the time to relieve the tax burden on Minnesotans is now. I?m proud to work with House Republicans who continue to work to return our surplus to the taxpayers.

Banning Plastic Water Bottles

You may have heard of HF 1857 [ [link removed] ], a bill that says ?A manufacturer, wholesaler, or retailer is prohibited from selling or offering for sale bottled water in Minnesota.? Many said that this bill was performative, wasn?t serious, and wouldn?t go anywhere, but this bill is actually moving in the Legislature!

Senator Morrison introduced SF 2791, the Senate companion to this bill. Rep. Jordan was able to find a coauthor and this bill now stands ready to be heard in committee.

Firearm Knowledge

Representative Bliss introduced a bill that would require ?A member of the legislature who introduces or authors a bill relating to firearms? to either have a carry permit, have completed range safety officer training, or pass a knowledge test regarding firearm calibers and operation. The bill is HF 2800 and can be read here [ [link removed] ].

Constituent Visits

teamsters

I had a number of visitors in my office as we move towards the halfway point of the legislative session.?

On Tuesday, I was joined by one of my constituents, Roger Meuier, along with some members of the Teamsters. Discussion revolved around warehouse worker safety, refinery safety, and unemployment insurance. Appreciated the chance to hear about your issues!

Dr. Chuck Sawyer, along with Dr. Lukas Biermaier and his son, Dr. Steven Biermaier of Biermaier Chiropractic Clinic stopped by this afternoon to talk about MA assistance and other issues important to our health care professionals.

vets

Veterinary Day on the Hill this week as well and glad to have Hannah Bakke stop by with her sister, Rachel, who just happens to work here in St. Paul as the Legislative Assistant for Senator Mark Johnson. Had a great visit about Vet Tech Licensure, antibiotic conservation, and the University of Minnesota?s bonding request for the college of veterinarian medicine.

swcd

The Minnesota Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts had their day on the hill on Wednesday this week. I was happy to connect with Andrew Muir, Joe Wilebski, and Jamie Osowski from Kittson County SWCD who came to talk about issues such as the delegated county feedlot program, SWCD funding and proposed drainage legislation working it's way through the legislature this session.
