Helping Congress Deal with NCII
FSC has continued to meet with Congressional offices about banking and other issues pertinent to our industry. We’re currently working with a Senate office to help them develop policy on revenge porn and other forms of non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII) — and connecting them with adult platforms who can better understand both challenges and effective strategies.
Ineffective, Unconstitutional, and Dangerous: The Problem with Age Verification Mandates
In the wake of Louisiana’s new law mandating the use of age verification software (AVS) on adult content websites, a flurry of copycat legislation has been introduced by well-meaning but poorly-informed politicians who don’t understand the real-world impacts of the laws they are proposing. The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) whole-heartedly supports the goal of protecting young people from material that is age-inappropriate or harmful. As the trade association for the adult industry, FSC has both the subject matter expertise and sincere desire to collaborate with legislators on workable solutions. Unfortunately, the proposals being put forward in statehouses around the country have significant practical, technical and legal problems that will undermine its effectiveness in protecting children, create serious privacy risks and infringe on Americans’ Constitutional rights. *Republicans Take Aim at Risque Jokes and Romance Novels with Anti-Sex Bills*
"Measures already exist to prevent children accessing porn. 'There’s a really easy way to keep kids from accessing adult content. And that’s a device-level filter' on mobile phones that block adult websites that are registered as Restricted to Adults, said Mike Stabile of the Free Speech Coalition, which advocates for the rights of sex workers. These laws, according to Stabile, aren’t going to stop kids from looking at porn. 'Even if they were to block all sites, you’re still going to have adult content on Twitter and Reddit … kids will get VPNs,'..." Read more on The Guardian ( [link removed] ).
Bill to Require Additional Proof of Age For Porn Sites in Virginia heads to Youngkin's Desk
"'We fear that consumers will at best simply evade the measures, or at worst fall prey to criminals eager to rob and extort them,' wrote the Free Speech Coalition." Read more on KPVI.
OnlyFans Is Great For People's Sex Lives
"'A lot of the stuff that happens happens in the DMs, and it happens not just on platforms like OnlyFans but phone and sexting services like Niteflirt and SextPanther,' said Mike Stabile, the director of public affairs with the Free Speech Coalition, a trade association for workers in the adult industry. 'There are a lot of people who feel like this is the only place I can talk about my desires: I can’t talk about my fetishes with my family or friends, but here is a creator, here is a performer who does this, who doesn't feel ashamed of it.'” Read more on V ( [link removed] ) ice.
