Hi friend, I’m Ed Markey, and I believe in a Green New Deal.
It’s been four years since my friend Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and I introduced the first resolution for a Green New Deal in Congress. It was the result of young people, scientists, activists, and affected communities coming together to create a framework for tackling the climate crisis while lifting up the working class.
The movement for a Green New Deal faced a huge test when our campaign was challenged only a couple years ago. With your help, we dug in, fought hard, and won, proving along the way that voters of all kinds want leaders who fight for bold climate solutions when our future is at stake.
With the climate crisis continuing to devastate communities around the world, and with oil and gas companies raking in billions in record profits, the struggle to provide a livable planet is more important than ever—and the fossil fuel lobby is ready to fight back harder than ever, too.
And although things can look dark and gloomy, there’s still so much reason for hope. Last year we made a huge first step by passing the first real climate legislation in Congress and having it signed by President Joe Biden. We also showed during the mid-terms that pro-climate action candidates can win big in crucial swing states like Georgia, Arizona, and Pennsylvania by being unapologetic about clean energy solutions.
And you better believe that this movement we’ve built hasn't given up on the fight for a truly transformative Green New Deal.
So with that said, our first FEC fundraising deadline of the year is at the end of the month, and Big Oil and Republican mega-donors will be looking to see if our movement still has grassroots support. Without your help, we could seriously fall behind and risk everything we’ve fought for along the way.
