Fellow New Yorkers:

Do you have 60 seconds to make a difference today?

The 2023 New York State Legislative Budget is coming down to the wire, and we want to put pressure on our legislators to pass the Energy Efficiency, Equity, and Jobs Act (S.2469 ([link removed]) Parker / A.2655 ([link removed]) Hunter), a bill we created here at WE ACT.

This legislation will make sure that housing in environmental justice communities is eligible for energy efficiency upgrades by expanding retrofit work to include lead, mold, pest, and other toxic remediation – none of which are currently included. And energy efficiency upgrades mean lower energy usage and costs!

We want them to include this bill in the state budget this year, and we need your help to let our state senators know that this is a priority for New Yorkers!

ACT NOW
Please take a minute TODAY to call Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins at 518-455-2585 as well as your state senator (who you can find via this link ([link removed]) ) to let them know that you want to see the Energy Efficiency, Equity, and Jobs Act in this year's budget!

We’ve even created a script for you to use (but feel free to improvise):

Good morning! My name is ________ with ________ organization (or I am a constituent of ___________). I am calling in support of the Energy Efficiency, Equity, and Jobs Act (S.2469 Parker) and would like to see it in this year's budget. It would allow energy efficiency funding to reach more housing, especially affordable housing, by including the remediation of environmental hazards like lead, mold, pests, and asbestos as a part of energy efficiency retrofits. More efficient homes will mean lower energy usage and lower bills for New Yorkers, lower emissions for New York State, and create good jobs in the process.

With your help, we can get this bill in the budget – and another win for environmental justice!
