Dominic's Constituency Newsletter
John xxxxxx,
Since my last update, I have launched a joint campaign with Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey, Lisa Townsend, to keep our streets safe with better street lighting where residents walk home at night. Find out how you can get involved below.

As our petition to stop Sadiq Khan from expanding the ULEZ to the border with Elmbridge enters its fourth week, we need your help to oppose the Mayor of London's plans to charge Elmbridge residents £12.50 a day for driving into Greater London.

Ahead of the coronation of King Charles III, I've launched a special coronation card competition for schools and children to take part in. The winning design will be sent to His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort to send them the best wishes of everyone across Esher and Walton constituency.

Yours sincerely,

Dominic

Turning on more local streetlights
Everyone deserves to feel safe while out at night.

This week, I launched a joint campaign with Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner, Lisa Townsend, to understand what more we can do to make local streets safer at night.

From switching more streetlights on in residential areas, to providing better CCTV coverage in public spaces, we want to hear your thoughts on how we can better protect local residents from crime.

If you are a constituent and know a street or public area that could benefit from streetlights remaining on – or any other safety measures - please fill out my survey to let me know your views.

Stopping the ULEZ expansion
The London Assembly Lib Dems are backing the Mayor’s tax on drivers, with only the Conservatives voting against plans to expand ULEZ right up to the border of Esher and Walton constituency.

I still need your help to campaign against the ULEZ expansion. Add you name to the petition below.

Coronation Card Competition

This May, we will come together to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III and The Queen Consort. To mark this historic occasion, I am launching Esher and Walton’s Coronation Card Competition!

I have written to all schools across Esher and Walton constituency inviting them to take part and would also welcome designs from anyone in the constituency. If you would like to take part, all you need to do is design a card on an A4 piece of paper. You can return your design either by post or scan to email by 27 March 2023.

120,000 more daily GP appointments in England

There were 120,000 extra GP appointments each day in January 2023 compared with January 2022 in England.

70% of appointments were held face-to-face.

This government is committed to cutting waiting lists so that people in Esher and Walton constituency can get an appointment when they need one.

Supporting the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse

I recently stopped by the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse to catch up with Trustee, Janet Turner, following the award of £50,000 of government funding under the UK Shared Prosperity Fund which I secured last July.
It's fantastic to see our local campaign, with government funding and a fabulous community behind it, has successfully protected our local heritage for future generations to enjoy.
Welcoming Rowan Prep School to Parliament

It was a pleasure to meet with Year 6 pupils from Rowan Prep School in Parliament last week for a Q&A following their tour.

Thank you to the students and teachers for coming up!

Ministry of Justice
At the Ministry of Justice:
  • Raising the legal age of marriage to 18 in England and Wales to crack down on forced marriages which can cause lasting damage to children. Those found guilty of arranging child marriages now face sentences of up to 7 years in prison.

  • Establishing a new Independent Public Advocate to support victims after major disasters. For the first time in England and Wales, a specialist panel will provide dedicated support to survivors and the bereaved families of major disasters like Hillsborough, the Manchester Arena bombing and the Grenfell Tower disaster.

  • Meeting with International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor, Karim A. A. Khan KC, ahead of the UK leading an international conference in support of the ICC’s war crimes investigations. We are doing all we can to help ensure those responsible for atrocities in Ukraine are held to account.

  • Rolling out the first ‘Rapid Deployment Cells’ to boost prison capacity. The 48 new units at HMP Norwich are the first of 1,000 Rapid Deployment Cells being rolled out at 18 prison sites across the country, helping to quickly create extra capacity across the prison system while longer-term expansion is underway.
