Democrat Accuses “Twitter Files” Journalists of Endangering Lives by Exposing the Truth of Censorship
National Review: Representative Stacey Plaskett (D., Virgin Islands) ripped into Matt Taibbi and Michael Shellenberger during a Thursday hearing on the Twitter Files, accusing the pair of journalists of endangering the lives of Twitter employees by exposing how the social-media platform partnered with various federal agencies to censor disfavored political views. Plaskett insisted that there was no “real evidence” of coordination between Twitter and the federal government and argued that the hundreds of emails revealed by Shellenberger and Taibbi are simply evidence of benign “content moderation” efforts ( National Review). Benny Johnson: Jim Jordan OBLITERATES Democrat on House Weaponization Committee after she has utter meltdown over Twitter Files authors testifying to expose Big Tech censorship ( Twitter). Democrats Attempts to Get “Twitter Files” Journalists to Reveal Their Sources, Get Upset When They Refuse
Fox News: Rep. Sylvia Garcia, D-Texas, was accused of badgering journalist Matt Taibbi into revealing a source on Thursday during a heated House Judiciary Committee hearing on the “Twitter Files,” but the reporter wouldn’t budge. Sourcing was a sensitive subject as it had already come up during the hearing when Taibbi was asked directly about it regarding his reporting on internal Twitter communications and accusations of government censorship. Garcia asked Taibbi when Twitter owner Elon Musk first approached him to partake in the “Twitter Files” project, which has allowed once-secret internal discussions to be exposed, revealing an array of issues. Taibbi began to say he couldn’t reveal that information when Garcia insisted she simply needed a date ( Fox News). Townhall: Chaos. Tensions rise after House Democrats try to get (Matt Taibbi) to reveal his sources for the Twitter Files ( Twitter). RNC Research: Journalist Michael Shellenberger says Biden’s FTC demanding Twitter reveal the names of journalists with whom they interacted is a “chilling” and “disturbing” attack on the free press. “I never thought that would happen in the United States of America” ( Twitter).

Biden’s $6.9 Trillion Budget Proposal Provides Raises for Government Employees While Skyrocketing Taxes
Daily Mail: President Joe Biden on Thursday released a $6.8 trillion budget that puts higher taxes on the rich, targets corporations and gives a huge injection of funding for social programs such as child care and paid family leave. There are also billions set aside for a 5.2 percent pay rise for federal workers, support for refugees, more offshore wind farms and a $25 billion investment in border security ( Daily Mail). National Review: The budget would also quadruple a tax on stock buybacks, increase taxes on corporations already under pressure from higher costs driven by inflation, and add an additional 25 percent tax on high-net-worth individuals. He also increases an Obamacare surtax on investment income in a way that would hit small businesses, and then diverts the revenue from Obamacare to claim it will now shore up Medicare. Relative to the most recent baseline from the Congressional Budget Office, Biden would raise taxes by $5.5 trillion and spending by $2.2 trillion over the next decade ( National Review).

US Put More Sanctions on Chinese Companies for Aiding Iranian Drone Efforts
Reuters: The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on a China-based network over accusations it has shipped aerospace parts to an Iranian company involved in the production of drones that Tehran has used to attack oil tankers and exported to Russia. The U.S. Treasury Department targeted five companies and one person in the network for selling and shipping thousands of aerospace components, including those that can be used for drones, to the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industrial Company ( Reuters). Financial Times: The action underlined deep western concerns about Iran’s military links to Moscow, accusing the Islamic republic of selling armed drones to Russia to be used in Moscow’s war in Ukraine. Visa, Mastercard Stop Program to Categorize Gun Purchases Differently After Pushback
Associated Press: Visa and Mastercard paused their decision to start categorizing purchases at gun shops, a significant win for conservative groups and Second Amendment advocates who felt that tracking gun shop purchases would inadvertently discriminate against legal firearms purchases. After Visa and Mastercard announced their plans to implement a separate merchant category code for gun shop purchases, the payment networks got significant pushback from the gun lobby as well as conservative politicians. A group of 24 GOP state attorneys general wrote a letter to the payment networks threatening legal action against Visa and Mastercard if they moved forward with their plan ( Associated Press). Bloomberg: The push to adopt the new code was led by Amalgamated Bank CEO Priscilla Sims Brown. In November, Brown said banks were developing technology to identify potential mass shooters by creating “detection scenarios” that, if triggered, would prompt banks to file a Suspicious Activity Report to the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network ( Bloomberg).

North Korea Undergoes War Preparation Drills, Launches Additional Missiles Near South Korea
Associated Press: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised a frontline artillery drill simulating an attack on an unspecified South Korean airfield as he called for his troops to sharpen their combat readiness in the face of his rivals’ “frantic war preparation moves.” The North Korean report came a day after South Korea’s military detected the North firing at least one short-range ballistic missile toward the sea from a site near the western coastal city of Nampo. The launch came as South Korea and the United States prepare to kick off their biggest combined military training exercise in years to counter the growing threat of Kim’s nuclear arsenal ( Associated Press). Reuters: North Korean leader Kim’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, said earlier this week any move to shoot down one of its test missiles would be considered a declaration of war and blamed a joint military exercise between the United States and South Korea for growing tensions ( Reuters).
