Department of Health meets five times with Attorney General since October to discuss proposed exclusion zone law
Michael Collins TD
In reply to a parliamentary question submitted by Michael Collins TD, the Minister for Health has confirmed that his department met with the Attorney General on five separate occasions since October 2022 to seek advice on proposals to ban peaceful pro-life gatherings in the vicinity of abortion facilities.

Despite repeated assurances from the Garda Commissioner and An Garda SĂochĂĄna that all protests and gatherings to date outside abortion centres have been peaceful and have not contravened existing public order laws, the Government continues to press ahead with passing a draconian law that singles out pro-life citizens and criminalises them.

For the Department of Health to meet with the Attorney General five times in a matter of months on this issue is a scandal and an outrageous waste of time when one considers the overcrowding in hospitals and the excessive waiting lists for hospital appointments that families and seriously ill-patients are having to contend with at present.

Thanks to the efforts of TDs like Deputy Collins, we are able to get a better sense of where the present government's priorities lie and how ideologically driven they are to suppress pro-life voices while taking their eye off other areas that urgently need attention to protect the health and welfare of citizens.
Public outcry leads to last minute amnesty for family facing deportation because their son was considered a “burden” on the health system
Aaryan pictured with his family in Perth, Australia

A family living in Perth, Australia, were told last month that they would have to leave their home of seven years because their son who has Down syndrome was considered by the state as a ‘burden’ on the health system.

As a direct result of the public reaction to the news in recent days, Australia's Federal Immigration Minister, Andrew Giles, intervened at the last minute and granted the family a right to stay in the country.

Krishna Aneesh and Aneesh Kollikkara, originally from India, live in Perth with their daughter Aaryasree and son Aaryan, 10 - who has Down syndrome.

Their visa was due to expire on March 15 and an application for permanent residency was rejected on the grounds that their son would cost the state too much in carer payments and special education, on account of the fact that he has Down syndrome.

Before the deportation order was issued, the family argued that they would never avail of the care provisions cited by the state and they claimed they would likely pay more in taxes over anything the state would spend on Aaryan’s welfare.

This is not the first time that the Australian government threatened to deport families of children with special needs. The measure of a truly caring society is the way it treats its most vulnerable and defenceless members. The leaders of Australia need to do some serious soul searching and resetting of priorities to ensure nothing so shocking and discriminatory like this ever happens again.

Petition to DEFUND the National Women’s Council gaining momentum!

Sign the petition and spread the word!

Over 2,500 people have signed the petition in the past weeks calling for the defunding of the National Women’s Council, the taxpayer funded body leading an aggressive push at present for late-term abortion on request to be legalised.

By signing the petition below, you will be adding your voice to the call to defund the NWCI and start over with something better in its place.

It’s disgraceful the way the NWCI claims to represent ALL women, while completely brushing aside the concerns of women who regret their abortions and the majority of women who want to see alternatives to abortion promoted.

The changes we want to see happen won’t occur overnight but that shouldn’t dissuade us from getting started. Together, we must shine a light on the unfairness of what’s happening in order to bring about change.

The DEFUND petition is off to a great start. Let’s spread the word and keep the momentum going!

When you’ve signed the petition, please share the link with family and friends and encourage them to be part of the effort as well. Thanks for all your help!
