Good evening, John – Texas has been a land of historic opportunity. Millions of people have picked up their lives and moved to Texas on the promise this was a conservative state. We said the taxes were minimal, homes were affordable, and job opportunities were abundant. But we’ve promised more than we have delivered. Elected officials all around the Lone Star State proclaim this is a great place to live because of the low cost of living. They claim anyone can buy a home or start a business. Yet property taxes are skyrocketing, driving people off their land and out of their homes. Young adults can’t afford to buy a first home. Their parents and grandparents can’t afford to stay in what they have. And those property tax problems are worse for renters and businesses. We add insult to injury with a completed “gross margins tax” on Texas-grown businesses and handouts and giveaways for out-of-state corporations. We’re told, “But we’re better off than California!” Big deal! The least drunk person at a bar isn’t a model of sobriety. Texas should be a place where we have lower taxes, lower spending, and less government. In our republic, real leadership must come from the people. To ensure the future we want for our prosperity, we must be willing to take action today. But for our fellow Texans to know what they need to do, they must first know what is really going on. They must be able to find real news they can trust from people who share their values. Will you give $80 or even just $20 to help Texans get real news? Texas Scorecard will always report the news of the day, whether the politicians like it or not. We exist to serve real Texans. When you give to Texas Scorecard, you are ensuring your fellow Texans will become more informed, more engaged, and more effective. Can you chip in to help? Thank you for knowing Texas can be better!
