It's Thursday, March 9th.

Biden Budget

President Biden proposed a $6.9 trillion budget that calls for reducing deficits and raising taxes on wealthy people and large corporations. And as the WSJ reports, the Pentagon budget request for $842 billion is a 3.2% increase from what Congress enacted last year. The national security request includes an additional $7 billion for military support for Ukraine and $23.6 billion for the Energy Department as part of the modernization of sea, land, and air-based nuclear weapons.

Russia Uses Hypersonic Missiles in Ukraine Strike

Russia launched its biggest aerial attack in weeks on Thursday, hitting targets across Ukraine with a complex barrage of weapons, including its newest hypersonic missiles, in what it said was retaliation for an incursion last week by a pro-Ukrainian armed group in the Bryansk region of Russia, as the NYT reports.

100 active, reserve, and veteran soldiers of Israel’s most elite combat units protested Thursday morning outside the Jerusalem offices of the Kohelet Policy Forum, the far-right organization that is the main architect of the contentious government plan to weaken the Supreme Court, as The Washington Post reports.
