Friends,
Friends,
This week, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, openly criticized my plan to deal with the cartels which put America’s national security at risk every day. My AUMF and Declaring War on the Cartels legislation would give the U.S. government leverage over the Mexican government, and give our military the intelligence collection authority to combat the cartels in a way traditional law enforcement cannot. The President of Mexico disagrees with my plans, calling it "propaganda." For his own country’s sake, Mexico’s President should get on board with a U.S. authorization of military force against the drug cartels and be our partner to eradicate this threat once and for all. You can read more on my response to Mexico’s President below.
I also went on Fox News this week to elaborate on how we can combat the cartels, and why it’s vital Americans never forget what happened during the catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan. I also spoke about the purposeful poisoning of Americans via fentanyl, during discussion of the HALT Fentanyl Act at the Energy and Commerce Committee markup. The bill, which I am an original cosponsor on, would increase penalties for the manufacturing, distribution and sale of fentanyl.
Sincerely,

My Message to the President of Mexico
In case you missed it, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, openly opposed my plan to authorize military force against the cartels. In two different press conferences he attacked my legislation, most recently accusing our battle against fentanyl as being “propaganda” and offering strawman arguments about gun control. Eliminating the drug cartels is in both America and Mexico’s interests. This is not propaganda, and the President knows it. We need to work together and put politics aside. The livelihood of Mexican citizens and American citizens depends on it.
America Has a Poisoning Problem. This is Who's Responsible:
To stop the fentanyl crisis, we need to target the root supply. How do we do this? Cut off the suppliers—the cartels—and the ones who aid them: the Chinese Communist Party. China is actively sending fentanyl precursors to these criminals. They and the cartels have a mutual interest in weakening America. Demand is a problem, but the hard truth is that it always will be. With highly addictive drugs, the supply does create demand.
Fentanyl is Poisoning Americans
This week I spoke at the Energy and Commerce Committee markup on how fentanyl is poisoning Americans. Cartels and their Chinese supplies are purposely facilitating this crisis to destabilize our country and harm Americans. Some Democrats argue that the demand for drugs is the problem, but that’s not true. We can’t blame a victim of poisoning for ‘demanding’ something they never wanted. To stop the crisis we’re not stopping the demand, we’re stopping the supply. My bill (HALT Fentanyl Act) is simple and should be bipartisan—it provides deterrence by increasing penalties for the manufacturing, distribution and sale of fentanyl while still preserving access for medical and scientific research.
This is How We Can Combat the Cartels:
I joined 'Fox & Friends' to discuss efforts to combat Mexican cartels and the White House's pushback on designating cartels as terrorist organizations. He also discusses emotional testimony on the Afghanistan withdrawal.

What People Get Wrong About Russia | Chris Miller
Economic historian Chris Miller deconstructs all the major arguments against American involvement in the Russia-Ukraine War. Didn’t NATO provoke Russia into war? What difference does it make to Americans what happens in Ukraine or the rest of Europe? Wouldn’t Putin stop once he has Ukraine? Aren’t we at risk of Russia using tactical nukes? Isn’t Putin just a wise Christian man who’s deeply concerned about woke ideology infecting western civilization? Listen now on Youtube, Apple and Spotify.

USA Today: Mexican Drug Cartels Are Terrorizing Americans. Here's How the US Needs to Fight Back.
Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes and Ismael Zambada Garcia. If you don’t know their names, you should. They should be as recognizable as Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein or Pablo Escobar. These men and the cartels they command are responsible for killing tens of thousands of Americans every year. They live and operate right in our backyard and have more control and influence over the security of our border with Mexico than the U.S. government.
Fox News: Mexican President Claims Fentanyl is US Problem, Slams Calls for US Military Action Against Drug Cartels
One week after two Americans were killed and two others were kidnapped by a drug cartel just south of the border in Matamoros, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that calls for U.S. military action against drug trafficking organizations are "irresponsible." The rebuke comes after multiple Republican lawmakers called for the U.S. military to take direct action against the cartels. "This is a problem of mass poisoning of the citizens of the United States and the cartels are directly responsible," Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, who introduced a bill earlier this year to authorize military force against the cartels, said in a message to López Obrador on Wednesday.
