Learn more Insulin and drug costs are being cut by the Inflation Reduction Act! Dear John, Thanks to President Biden’s historic Inflation Reduction Act, the cost of insulin is now capped at $35 per month for diabetic seniors on Medicare. This will save Riverside seniors hundreds of dollars a month! More information on how seniors are benefiting from the President’s historic actions can be found here from the Department of Health and Human Services. Following the momentum generated by the Inflation Reduction Act, Eli Lilly, the largest manufacturer of insulin in the United States, announced that they are lowering their prices and capping what patients pay out of pocket for the drug maker’s insulin products at $35. These cost-saving measures will provide much needed relief to diabetes sufferers, particularly in communities of color that see disproportionate rates of diagnosis and hospitalization from the disease. Such actions would not have happened without all the hard work of patients, advocates, and Democrats nationwide. But we can’t stop now. Other insulin manufacturers should follow the lead of Eli Lilly. This benefit should apply to everyone. Insulin costs less than $10 to make, but Americans are sometimes forced to pay over $300. For far too long, American families have been burdened by drugs costs many times higher than what people in other countries pay for the same prescription. I am glad that President Biden recognized this during his State of the Union Address, and I look forward to continue working with him to make insulin, and other life-saving drugs, more accessible to everyone.
