CW: Police violence
John –
Over the weekend, communities in Atlanta came together for a week of
action against the construction of Cop City — a $90 million, 85-acre urban
warfare facility created to “train” police forces across the country.
But what many people may not know is that behind the Cop City project is
the Atlanta Police Foundation, a private entity which is funded by some of
the most powerful companies in the city – including Delta, AT&T, Home
Depot, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and many more.
The corporations funding Cop City are enabling an overpoliced state that
does not hesitate to take a life, destroy the environment, impede on the
civil rights of Black and brown communities, and ignore Indigenous land
rights. Yet despite loud opposition and community input, Cop City is still
moving forward.
That’s why we’re planning to send thousands of messages to the
corporations and donors who are funding Cop City, urging them to put the
people of Atlanta and our climate first and cut ties with Cop City and its
supporters.
[ [link removed] ]John, will you
send a letter to the funders and corporations of Cop City who are enabling
this facility to move forward?

What’s happening in Atlanta is a stark example of where climate justice
meets racial justice. The activists gathering in the Weelaunee Forest have
been organizing together for years, and it’s clear that we must stand up
and speak out for intersectional justice in this critical moment.
Roughly 1,000 people gathered near the Weelaunee Forest to join together
for a peaceful rally with music and speakers. But this event was quickly
dismantled in a characteristically over–militarized fashion when local
police arrested 35 attendees, including a legal observer, and charged over
23 people with domestic terrorism.
For too long, the media has depicted peaceful activists as ‘violent
insurgents’ with little to no mention of the state-based violence that has
caused immense pain and destruction to our communities. So it’s time that
we stand with the activists on the ground and use our people power to end
this state-inflicted suffering.
Our collective voice is a powerful tool, John,
and it’s time to take this fight to the
next level. [ [link removed] ]Please join us in flooding the inboxes of the funders and
corporations of Cop City with a letter demanding they rescind their
funding.
