The new Biden budget is almost a parody of leftwing progressivism.
The budget contains $2 trillion in new taxes and would raise federal spending by just over $500 billion next year. Did we mention tax and spend?
Here’s a list of the tax increases:
On the capital gains tax, remember the gains on a stock purchase and sale are not indexed for inflation. This means that with Bidenflation the after-inflation tax on asset sales would rise to about 60% on an asset held for more than five years.
If anything near this tax rate were applied, the stock market could suffer a 1929-style crash.
Fortunately, Republicans in the House will stop this assault on the American economy and stock market.
But it’s a worthwhile snapshot of what Democrats plan to do if they sweep the elections in 2024.
2) What A Difference A Biden Flip-Flop On Crime Makes!
Apparently Democrats were paying attention to the drubbing that soft-on-crime mayor Lori Lightfoot suffered in the Chicago mayoral election.
The DC crime bill passed the Senate last night 81-14-1 -- a bipartisan landslide. That's a stark contrast to the House, where 173 Democrats voted to greenlight the DC Council's attempt to weaken punishments for violent crimes in the midst of a crime wave.
They had excuses about DC autonomy and statehood (never, please) but the reality is most of them were just following their party leader in the White House:
“So a lot of us who are allies voted no in order to support what the White House wanted. And now we are being hung out to dry,” the lawmaker continued. “F****** AMATEUR HOUR. HEADS SHOULD ROLL OVER AT THE WHITE HOUSE OVER THIS.” The House Democrat added multiple other lawmakers were “EXTREMELY pissed” about the situation.
As most readers know the Committee to Unleash Prosperity has partnered with our friends at ALEC to make the case for school choice in seven states and push this over the goal line where we can win this year. (We don’t lobby, of course.)
We’ve already helped notch three victories so far this year: in West Virginia, Iowa, and Arkansas.
Next in line is Georgia where the Senate has passed a bill and it goes now to the House. Things are looking good, but there are obstacles – as the teacher unions provide a wall of resistance.
Here’s where we are according to our eyes and ears on the ground in Atlanta:
“We have 2 weeks to convince the House to pass SB 233 which allows: 1) funds for nearly all kids entering k and 1st graders, and 2) all students attending a public school ranked in the bottom 25% of Georgia schools, the option to receive a $6,000 Promise Scholarship to pay for private school. We estimate the potential number of recipients in year 1 to be 500,000.
100% of Republicans in the Senate voted in favor of the bill; if the same thing happens in the House, we win 104-76. Gov. Kemp has indicated he will sign the bill if it passes.”
4) Is Ken Burns A U.S. Historian Or A Historian For Only PBS Viewers?
Here’s another reason the Republicans should stop funding PBS with taxpayer dollars.
Ken Burns has become the premier purveyor of historical documentaries on the taxpayer-funded Public Broadcasting System. He calls himself politically “center-left.”
Try center-far left.
His “The U.S. and the Holocaust” evokes clear analogies between the political villains of the 1930s and the people his liberal PBS audiences hate most in today’s America.
He recently savagely attacked Ron DeSantis. “All of these bills that DeSantis and others are doing limit our ability to understand who we are and are not inclusive, they are exclusive,” he told CNN this week. “They are narrowing the focus of what is and isn’t American history. It’s terrifying. It feels like a Soviet system or, you know, the way the Nazis would build a Potemkin village…. It’s a huge threat to our republic.”
Huh? Has Burns even READ any of the modern American History textbooks? They have rewritten American history, blame America first, and have become fodder for leftwing propaganda.
An unwritten law of public discourse is that he who brings up Hitler first in a discussion has the weaker argument. In his smear of Ron DeSantis’ effort to put some boundaries on how taxpayer-funded public schools and universities teach U.S. history, Burns manages to compare the Florida Governor to the regimes of BOTH Hitler and Stalin.
DeSantis’ supposed Soviet-style sin? He has rejected parts of a College Board advanced placement course on African-American Studies because it included required studies on Black Lives Matter and requires kids to learn - in its own words - “the queer of color critique, grounded in Black feminism and intersectionality, as a Black studies lens that shifts sexuality studies toward racial analysis.”
We are hawks on protecting the freedom of speech and Burns is free to say anything he wants, no matter how odious. BUT NOT ON THE TAXPAYERS” DIME.
