Dear Friends,
Happy Women's History Month! Yesterday evening – on International Women's Day – we were joined by the Rosenstrasse Foundation, the United States Memorial Holocaust Museum, and the German Embassy for the opening of Give Us Our Husbands Back: Civil Resistance in Nazi-Era Berlin. This exhibition commemorates the Rosenstrasse Protest of February 1943, the largest public demonstration against the deportation of Jews in the Third Reich. The exhibition remains on display in our space for one week. We invite you to join us on Thursday, March 16, at 5:00pm, for a closing tour and screening of Margarethe von Trotta's 2003 film Rosenstrasse.
Our Jazz@Goethe concert series continues this month with two concerts featuring outstanding talents. This Sunday at 2:00pm, we will present saxophonist and clarinettist Ralf Böcker (with Craig Gildner on piano and guitar) in a specially-curated program of selections from the legendary Blue Note record label, which was founded by German-Jewish immigrants Alfred Lion and Frank Wolff in 1939. On March 26, we partner with the Washington Women in Jazz Festival to present bassist and vocalist Zoë Jorgenson, accompanied by Nataly Merezhuk on violin and Simone Baron on accordion and piano.
