Dear John,

As I’m sure you know, threats against abortion access continue to rage nationwide. Although we are lucky here in New York to have more legal protections and routes to access than many other states, we cannot stop pushing forward until equitable access to abortion is a reality for all.

Join us in urging our state Senators and Assemblymembers [[link removed]] to prioritize the following budget and legislative requests:

- Increased Medicaid reimbursement for reproductive health care must include medication abortion

New York’s Medicaid reimbursement rates for reproductive health care are more than a decade old and are well below the actual cost of providing reproductive health care – forcing many abortion providers to lose money when providing abortion care. Our compassionate and committed abortion providers deserve better.

- At least $1 million for abortion funds and practical support

Far too many people face significant financial and logistical barriers seeking abortion care, including the cost of care not covered by private or public insurance, travel expenses, childcare, lodging, lost wages, and the like. We urge the legislature to include at least an additional $1 million to be directed to grants to not-for-profit organizations addressing financial and practical support needs of people seeking abortion care, as envisioned by the Reproductive Freedom and Equity Program (A.361A/S.348B).

We’re also happy to support the already-proposed Medicaid reimbursement rates for procedural abortion and for family planning services, $25 million for reproductive health infrastructure, and access to medication abortion on college campuses. But without resources to help eliminate financial and logistical barriers for those seeking abortion care in the Empire State and equitable reimbursement rates for medication abortion, New York will continue to lag behind. New Yorkers and those who travel here for care deserve nothing less than the best we can give them.

John, we know there is a lot happening right now, but we hope you can still find a few minutes to use our prewritten click-through form [[link removed]] to send a message to your elected representatives. They need to hear from you!
