Proud, Clean and Ambitious

Clean air Day

We wouldn’t say we’re the greenest city in the UK, but we’re in the top one. This has been recently confirmed by The Guardian that said we are arguably the most ambitious council on tackling climate change, having set a target to be the first carbon neutral city in the UK by 2028.

Here are some of the things we have worked on to improve our air quality and reduce carbon emissions:

  • Introduced a Workplace Parking Levy, generating revenue that is only spent on sustainable transport schemes;
  • Built an electric tram network, powered by our not-for-profit energy company, Robin Hood Energy, using renewable sources;
  • Grown the world's largest fleets of biogas double-decker buses and run one of the largest fleets of electric buses in the UK;
  • Installed 286 publicly accessible charge points - all powered from renewable sources - and given out £400,000 to 38 businesses to install charge points, cycle shelters, showers and ebikes;
  • Converted more than 22% of our fleet to ULEVs before our target of 2020.

We believe, together, we can do even more, not only for the city but for the world. Your help will be crucial. Whether you are a business, public sector, sole trader, jobseeker, student, parent or a child, there is always something you can do to help tackle climate change. Here are a few ideas...

🎉Good news for five more businesses in Nottingham

WTSS

We are pleased to announce that five new businesses will receive grants to boost their low emission journey. These businesses have been successful in applying for our Workplace Travel Service grant scheme and will receive funding to install charge points, cycle shelters, showers and also buy brand new ebikes. This makes a total of 38 businesses that have been supported by the council's Workplace Travel Service and the feedback from those that have benefited has been very positive.

Could your business benefit too? The process is very straight forward and any type of business can apply including sole traders. Contact us for more information.

Coming soon: Nottingham Electric Vehicle Services (NEVS)

NEVS

The first local authority run ULEV Service Centre in the UK (NEVS), is well under way and progressing to the build stage. The centre will provide servicing, maintenance and repair facilities for our growing electric fleet. We hope to launch the centre in November 2019 in conjunction with Green Great Britain Week.

NGF

Come and join us at the Nottingham Green Festival on 15th September in the Arboretum. We'll be there showcasing a few of the latest electric vehicles (EV) on the market and a good number of EV drivers from our EV Owners club and experts will be on hand to help answer all your questions about EVs.

Never heard of Nottingham Green Festival before? This a festival that has been running for 26 years, organised by grass roots community based volunteers, not-for-profit and with no statutory funding. The event is free to attend and will have the latest in everything environmentally friendly!

Our fleet will soon be 22% ⚡️electric

fleet

The new electric street sweepers are doing a great job out in the wards and a further four have now been ordered to deliver further efficiencies and clean air to our neighbourhoods.

We also have an additional 36 Nissan eNV200 vans, now on order, as part of the V2G project and these are expected to be here late summer. This will see our EV fleet hit a total of 109 which is 22% of the fleet.

We are also looking at options of an EV ride on mower and EV pedestrian mower for the Arboretum Park, making it a fully electric vehicle/plant maintained park.

And finally, we are excited to announce that we will have three new electric minibuses in use by the new school year.

Stay tuned as we practice what we preach.
