We hope March is off to a great start for you! Team Green is excited to share what we’ve been up to lately. Please read on for updates!




In the News Governor Josh Green’s budget requests along with his legislative proposals in mid-February will directly help Hawaiian families, reduce the cost of living, provide essential healthcare services, and protect our environment.

Governor Green proposed a $970 million budget request for Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation programs. The initiative includes $12.5 million for the state rent supplement program, $20 million for the Hawaii Public Housing Authority to use for statewide public housing development, improvements, and renovations, and $40 million each fiscal year for repairs and maintenance for the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands existing infrastructure.

Governor Green also took action to strengthen our healthcare by requesting $12.3 million to provide additional funding to the Department of Health to provide additional resources for mental health services throughout the state, $25 million in 2024, and $20 million in 2025 to increase the Medicaid reimbursement rates up to 100% of Medicare.

Among other education initiatives, Governor Green proposed $38.8 million each fiscal year for the Preschool Open Doors Expansion to expand preschool access for our keiki.



Governor’s UpdatesIn February, Governor Josh Green attended the State of the Union Address with U.S. Representative Jill Tokuda. While in Washington DC, Governor Green chatted with President Biden at the first National Governors Association meeting of 2023, and spent the week exchanging ideas with colleagues from around the country, building connections and relationships that will benefit the people of Hawaii.

# [#]Last month, Governor Green declared 2023 the Year of the Kahuli , or land snail! There are roughly 750 species of kahuli that evolved in Hawaii, and are found nowhere else in the world. Protecting our native species is an important part of preserving the natural and cultural resources of Hawaii . Click here [[link removed]] for more on the big efforts to protect these small snails!
