John -
There is a systemic flaw in our current political culture: those who have personal ambitions are often the most enthusiastic to seek public office, and personal ambitions can oftentimes be the enemy of the public good.
For instance: real estate brokers often hold positions in zoning administrations, parents with private vendettas seek school board election and in Washington, anti-science conspiracy theorists like Marjorie Taylor Greene are appointed to the Coronavirus investigations subcommittee.
The finest leaders are often those who do not seek power. The finest leaders are tolerant and have visions of good governance that deliver for the people.
These are the leaders we are looking for in rural America. Tolerance, objectivity, and selfless service are the disciplines we want to see implemented. And above all, we desire, simply, to work for the common good.
Politics often leaves people out of the conversation, and that is why we need selfless leaders who advocate for the good of their communities, not on an agenda of personal gain.
The foundation of ROCC is built on inspiring civic engagement, making activism easy and empowering change-makers with the infrastructure they need to win elections.
