Dear reader,

One of my favorite parts of working with the Prospect team is
our generational diversity. We have staffers who were at the Democratic
National Convention when the whole world was watching in 1968, and
staffers who graduated college just a couple of years ago. I find both
the wisdom of experience and fresh perspectives that aren't burdened
by the past to be vital to our coverage.

We had the idea to put these older and younger staffers in conversation
with one another, to see how they approach the most important issues of
the day in politics and culture. The result is our brand-new original
podcast series, Prospect: Generations
<[link removed]>. (Apologies to the gang at
Star Trek.)

For the next month, you can listen in on these provocative discussions
that span the generational divide. We're going to release one every
week in March. The first teams up Prospect co-founder and co-editor Paul
Starr, who graduated from college into the turmoil of the Vietnam War,
and staff writer Lee Harris, who graduated during the era of Trump and
the pandemic. In "Do Generations Matter?"
<[link removed]>
Paul and Lee discuss whether generational distinctions have flattened in
the past fifty years, and if the monumental challenges of the modern
age-authoritarianism, the climate crisis, and more-will break that
pattern.

This frank series of discussions had me thinking about the people of
different generations I interact with in my life, and what I can learn
from them. This is the first original podcast we've put together since
I've been at the Prospect, and I think it will bring you closer to the
people who write the Prospect and how they think. I hope you enjoy it as
much as I have.
