Friend,
It's tax season! As you can imagine, things have been very busy in the Comptroller's Office as we have been processing filings - in fact, we have officially processed 1,000,000 tax returns! I wanted to write today to remind you that this is tax season and our office has a list of tips here. Tax returns are due this year by Tuesday, April 18.
You can file online for free using Maryland's iFile. You can learn more about how to use iFile here! If you need help from a free tax preparer, you can find information on options here. (We are working to supplement this information for next year's tax season but we aren't there yet!)
The sooner you file taxes, the sooner you will receive your tax refund, but make sure to file by April 18th or reach out to ask for an extension.
I ran for the office of State Comptroller to make this time of year more transparent and less stressful for Maryland's residents and businesses, so if you have questions or concerns please reach out! The Comptroller's Office is here for you. Our interactive website, marylandtaxes.gov, will have the answers to many of your questions that may arise. However, if you need any additional help you may contact Taxpayer Services at 1-800-MD TAXES. Assistance is available Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. You can also send an email to [email protected] to receive an answer. Lastly, you can schedule an in-person appointment at one of our branch locations via this link.
If you're looking for some additional reading, I also hope you'll check out our transition report. Let me know what you think!
Stay safe, be well, and keep in touch!
My best,
Brooke
