Fighting Against the Hunger Grand Canyon
Due to a recent change in federal law, as of March 1st there was a major reduction in federal SNAP benefits, which in some cases reduced families' benefits by as much as half. This cut will, without question, exacerbate the already surging hunger crisis in our country.
Check out HFA's new video on the impending Hunger Grand Canyon and its effect on seniors. And please share!

One of our best tools to fight hunger is the Farm Bill.
The Farm Bill contains the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP - formerly called the Food Stamp program) which is budgeted to spend $147 billion this year, dwarfing the role of charity in fighting hunger. All major domestic hunger programs – except school meals and WIC for pregnant people and children under five – are authorized by this bill, including programs to help low-income people obtain more fresh produce at farmers markets.

This is a new youth program that seeks to empower and educate young anti-hunger champions. Students are encouraged to participate in service projects and/or take leadership roles as student ambassadors. The goal is for students to mobilize their peers in action through volunteerism, civic engagement, fundraising, advocacy, and dialogue on food insecurity.

Students will help to reduce hunger in their school and community by increasing awareness and participation in school meals, SNAP, and other food assistance programs. This program is open to both high school and college students. CLICK HERE for more info.
