The government has until 31 March to come up with a new revised net zero strategy. Add your name to demand a proper plan to protect people and planet.

Dear John

The UK government has broken the law.

Last year we challenged the government’s net zero strategy. And the High Court ruled it didn’t have sufficient plans to meet the UK’s climate targets.

Because of that victory it has until 31 March to come up with a new revised strategy.

So as we face a worsening climate crisis, please sign our petition to tell the government: don't break climate laws.

The UK is committed to meeting legally binding targets to reduce emissions on the road to net zero by 2050.

But the UK government has not explained how they will be achieved.

That lack of detail was the reason we won our history-making court case last year, alongside ClientEarth and Good Law Project. It’s why the High Court found the net zero strategy to be unlawful.

Because of that ruling the government has been forced to produce a new revised plan. With essential details explaining how it will meet the UK’s targets.

We'll all benefit if the new strategy delivers emissions reductions and a more climate-friendly economy. It’s also essential that it prioritises people hit hardest by the climate crisis.

That means free insulation for cold, leaky homes – starting with people that need it most. As well as better public transport, especially for people living in the areas worst affected by air pollution.

And long-term investment in the jobs needed to transition to a greener energy system.

The new strategy is due in a matter of weeks. Before then, let’s make it clear to the government: don’t break your own climate laws. We expect a proper plan by 31 March.

Thanks again for all your support for our case last year. Thanks to you, our legal team can keep on fighting for people and planet in court.

All the best,

Katie
