John,
I wanted to make sure you saw this update from earlier in the week. O₂ Utah is celebrating the passage of HB 220, the first phase of our plan to clear the air through legislation. This bill represents the biggest step for clean air in a decade.
If signed by Gov. Cox, HB 220 will set new standards for dangerous emissions and could reduce our inversion by up to 25%! And this wouldn’t have happened without the support of those like you.

HB 220 is the product of O₂ Utah’s efforts on the ground in our communities, working to elect responsible leaders, and building the foundation for bold, necessary air quality legislation. Without your donations, HB 220 would never have come to be.
Please consider donating today ( [link removed] ). Whether renewing your support or giving for the first time, we appreciate your show of confidence in our mission. Donate today and keep O₂ Utah fighting for our air.
Gratefully,
David Garbett | Executive Director

Hi John,
Passing HB 220 is a monumental win for Utah's airshed ( [link removed] ) and is among the most impactful pieces of air quality legislation passed in the last decade.
It's a big step toward our goal of Prosperity 2030 — reducing emissions by 50% along the Wasatch Front by 2030.
But O₂ Utah isn’t finished. Help us keep moving the needle on air quality by donating today ( [link removed] ).

A donation to O₂ Utah keeps staff working full-time to elect responsible leaders and create bold policy as we continue the push for a healthier future.
So, what will O₂ Utah be working on in the coming weeks and months?
Municipal Elections
Municipal elections will be here before we know it. And there is a lot of work to be done before then.
We have already begun our process of interviewing candidates as we identify the climate champions we’ll support this election cycle.
We’ll work closely with candidates throughout the state and provide a myriad of services, including canvassing, phone banking, and volunteering.
One interesting note: some cities will use Rank Choice Voting ( [link removed] ) instead of a primary election.
We’ll keep you up to date with everything you need to know as the elections get closer, including our list of endorsed candidates.
HB 411 (Community Renewable Energy Program)
Eighteen communities have opted in to participate in the Community Renewable Energy Program, which says Rocky Mountain Power will supply 100% renewable energy to residents and businesses by 2030.
Even though these communities agreed to participate, there are still some hurdles to ensure they stay committed and the program is enacted, including signing a utility agreement with Rocky Mountain Power.
If you live in one of the 18 communities ( [link removed] ), please reach out to your mayor and councilmembers and encourage them to remain in the program.
We’ll be working with city councils and residents to keep communities in the program, and add new ones, so everyone can access 100% renewable energy.
Legislation
This was just our second session on the Hill and our first running a piece of legislation. We are immensely proud of what we accomplished — and we learned a lot!
We’re eager to apply our newfound experience to next year’s session and that work starts now.
As we mentioned, HB 220 is a significant step for Prosperity 2030, but there is plenty of work to be done to address pollution from transportation, buildings, and more to reach our goal of 50% emissions reduction.
