Should Congress pass an assault weapons ban?

John – since the beginning of the year, there’s already been 84 mass shootings. In the past week alone, there’s been 10 with over 50 victims. It is clear, and has been for a while now, that we have a major problem with gun violence in the United States.
Because of this, President Joe Biden has called on an assault weapons ban. This would ban assault-style rifles, such as the AR-15, that have been used in mass shootings for the past 20 years.
But Republican Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy has made it clear that the GOP will not entertain the idea of an assault weapons ban, or anything close, even in light of the growing number of mass shootings nationwide.
