Dear John,
The Trump Administration is expected to put America’s clean car standards
into reverse — slashing important protections that clean up our air,
create jobs, and save us money at the pump.
Now, reckless automakers GM, Fiat Chrysler, Toyota and others have all
sided with the Trump administration’s backward move. Here’s what’s at
stake with these rollbacks:
* Increased costs: Weakening standards = less fuel efficient cars =
families pay hundreds of dollars more in fuel. Current emission and
fuel efficiency standards save families an average of $266-400 per
month on fuel.
* Loss of jobs: the rollbacks would prevent the creation of or eliminate
between 89,000 and 202,000 jobs.
* More cars = more pollution: Putting more polluting cars on America’s
roads hurts all of us – threatening the health of our most vulnerable
communities, especially children, the elderly, communities of color
and low-income communities.

[ [link removed] ]Tell these automakers that their support of the Trump administration’s
move to roll back clean car standards is unacceptable.
Last September, the Trump administration moved forward with its plan to
gut states’ authority to adopt stricter tailpipe pollution standards than
those set by the federal government. Some automakers don’t want to throw
years of progress in reverse. Ford, Honda, and BMW have opted to continue
making cleaner cars and sided with states.
Many of the manufacturers once stood side by side with environmental,
labor, and consumer groups in support of creating these strong clean car
standards. But by siding with Trump’s attacks on the clean car standards,
GM, Fiat Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru and Kia have turned their backs
on American consumers who overwhelmingly want more fuel efficient
vehicles.

This isn’t a one sided issue, 24 bipartisan governors – representing 52
percent of the nation’s population and 57 percent of the U.S. economy –
have affirmed their support for strong clean car standards and preserving
state authority.
We’re working with groups across the country to urge automakers to support
cleaner cars and state’s ability to set stricter standards. We’ll be
delivering your signature along with the thousands our partners have
collected to Toyota, GM, Fiat Chrysler, Nissan, Subaru and Kia.
We need your help- [ [link removed] ]sign this petition and call out these automakers
today.
Thanks for taking action,
Eleanor
