Former CDC Director Testifies Gain of Function Research has Led to Greatest Pandemic in World History
|
Katie Pavlich: Testifying on Capitol Hill Wednesday morning, former Centers for Disease Control Director Robert Redfield was asked about the benefits of dangerous gain-of-function research — the frankensteining of viruses to make them more lethal or infectious to humans. When asked if he could point to a single pandemic gain-of-function research had prevented, Redfield couldn’t give an example and instead pinned the latest pandemic on the practice ( Townhall). Brad Wenstrup: “Has gain-of-function stopped a pandemic in your opinion?” Dr. Robert Redfield: “No, in the contrary, I think it probably caused the greatest pandemic our world has seen” ( Twitter). CSPAN: Former CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield: “Based on my initial analysis of the data, I came to believe and I still believe today that it indicates that COVID-19 more likely was the result of an accidental lab leak than a result of a natural spillover event” ( Twitter). Ed Morrissey: It was a cover-up from the beginning, and the media colluded in it every step of the way. The only question now is what kind of accountability can be applied, and whether we have stopped playing with GOF entirely at this point ( HotAir).

Daily Caller: The White House issued an award to Alba Rueda, a biological man, on International Women’s Day during the 2023 International Women of Courage Awards. Rueda is Argentina’s Special Envoy for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Rueda is responsible for the country’s adoption of the Transgender Labor Quota Act, which reserved 1% of public sector jobs in Argentina for transgender people ( Daily Caller). Reporter Caleb Parke: Biden celebrates International Women’s Day by highlighting a biological male ( Twitter). Post Millennial: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has chosen to mark International Women’s Day by issuing a statement declaring that “trans women are women” and that the Government of Canada “will always stand up to hate whenever and wherever it occurs” ( Post Millennial).

Press Proves DeSantis’ Point by Cutting Live Feed as He Shows Pornographic Books Meant for Children
|
Julio Rosas: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) held a press event in Tampa on Wednesday to “set the record straight, debunking the mainstream media, unions and leftist activists’ hoax of empty library bookshelves and political theater pretending that Florida’s schools cannot teach about topics like African American History, including topics like slavery.” The primary reason for the crackdown on inappropriate books stems from making sure no pornographic content is available to Florida students at school. The books DeSantis was using as examples of inappropriate materials were found in 23 school districts across the state. While he was showcasing the books, local news channels who were broadcasting had to cut away due to the overt sexual nature of the books ( Townhall). DeSantis War Room: Gov. DeSantis’ press conference on the Book Ban Hoax was being live-streamed on social media and carried live by local news. The stream was CUT because the books (found in schools!) were too explicit. Sensitive Content warning on Twitter. But liberals insist it’s good for kids ( Twitter)?

Minnesota Governor Signs Bill Allowing Illegal Residents to a Obtain Driver’s License
|
I wonder if they will now be okay with showing ID to vote since everyone is allowed a license. CBS: Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Tuesday signed a bill into law that will allow residents to get a driver’s license no matter their immigration status. Last month, the DFL-controlled Minnesota Legislature passed the bill and sent it to Walz’s desk. The effort, dubbed “driver’s licenses for all,” is 20 years in the making for supporters of the policy, who say it will improve public safety and allow people without legal status to continue contributing to the state’s economy ( CBS). Breitbart: Driver’s licenses for illegal aliens are vital for the open borders lobby because when illegal aliens are pulled over by local police, driving without a driver’s license is the first criminal charge that can put them in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody ( Breitbart).

Illegal Immigration Tax: $1,156 Annually Per Taxpayer
|
Fox News: Illegal immigration is now costing U.S. taxpayers $151 billion a year, marking a 30% increase in five years, according to a new study by a hawkish immigration group being released this week. The study, “The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on United States Taxpayers 2023” by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) concludes that American taxpayers pay overall around $182 billion annually for services and benefits to illegal immigrants. However, those costs are offset by around $31 billion in taxes collected from what they estimate are 15.5 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. Food assistance and nutrition programs, including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) costs are estimated by the group to cost about $13.5 billion a year. The study estimates that each illegal immigrant or U.S.-born child of illegal immigrants costs $8,776 a year and costs each taxpayer $1,156 a year ( Fox News).

Author of Famed “Goosebumps” Series Says Woke Edits Made Without His Knowledge
|
Daily Wire: In the wake of the fury surrounding the woke alteration of famed author Roald Dahl’s classic books, the author of the “Goosebumps” series, which trails only J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” book series in sales among children’s books, pointed out that his publisher censored his work without his permission. “Goosebumps” author R.L. Stine reacted after The Times initially reported that he had joined Scholastic to edit his books as part of a 2018 ebook re-release, and over 100 edits had been made. The Times later corrected the error, acknowledging the books “were changed without his knowledge” ( Daily Wire). R.L. Stine: The stories aren’t true. I’ve never changed a word in Goosebumps. Any changes were never shown to me ( Twitter). PJ Media: Let’s have a little truth in advertising, shall we? If a publisher wants to make changes to an author’s work — and assuming they have the contractual authority to do so — don’t allow them the legal right to claim that the author is still the author ( PJ Media).

Car Thefts Reach Highest Levels in 14 Years
|
Fox News: There were over one million car thefts in the U.S. in 2022 for the first time in 14 years according to a report for the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB). The estimated 1,001,967 thefts were an increase of 7% over 2021 and the most since 1.05 million were stolen in 2008. Cars have also been targeted for the valuable materials in their catalytic converters, the thefts of which increased 1,215% between 2019 and 2022 ( Fox News). NICB: California and Texas led the nation with the most reported stolen vehicles in 2022, and Illinois had the largest increase of any top 10 state with thefts increasing by an estimated 35% between 2021 and 2022 ( NICB).

CCP Blogger on Government Advisory Panel Places “Pro-Independence” Taiwanese Officials on Kill List
|
National Review: A pro-CCP blogger who sits on an influential Chinese government advisory panel called for the assassination of Taiwanese vice president William Lai, in comments expanding on his proposal to create a list of Taiwan “pro-independence” figures that pro-Beijing forces would kill after an invasion. The blogger, Zhou Xiaoping, joined an influential government body called the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference this year. Although the body doesn’t have legislative power, it is a key conduit through which the Chinese Communist Party exercises influence over people and entities who aren’t officially in the party ( National Review). Freelance Reporter David Demes: In an interview with mingpaocom, Zhou raised Taiwan’s VP ChingteLai as an example for the kill-list, comparing him to terrorist leader Osama bin Laden ( Twitter).

China Quickly Loses Favorability in Americans’ Eyes
|
Townhall: A poll that was taken in the days following the discovery of the spy balloon shows that a record low of 15 percent of Americans view China favorably. In the findings, 45 percent view China “unfavorably” and 39 percent view it “mostly unfavorably.” Gallup’s write-up noted that this percentage has fallen steadily over the past few years, from 41 percent in 2019, 33 percent in 2020, 20 percent in 2021 and 2022. Before this year, 20 percent was the lowest recorded ( Townhall). Gallup: Republicans’ 6% rating is the lowest of the three, while Democrats’ and independents’ ratings are 17% and 18%, respectively ( Gallup).

Biden's Neglect: Taliban Now Owns $7.2B in American Military Equipment
|
Washington Free Beacon: The Taliban is in possession of nearly $7.2 billion in U.S. taxpayer-funded weapons, ammunition, and aircraft as a result of the Biden administration’s bungled 2021 military withdrawal from Afghanistan. “Nearly $7.2 billion worth of aircraft, guns, vehicles, ammunition, and specialized equipment” was abandoned in Afghanistan when the Biden administration carried out its rushed evacuation, according to a report published in late February by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), the federal watchdog group that monitors U.S. expenditures in the country. “At least 78 aircraft worth $923.3 million, 9,524 air-to-ground munitions valued at $6.54 million, over 40,000 vehicles, more than 300,000 weapons, and nearly all night vision, surveillance, communications, and biometric equipment provided to the (Afghan defense forces) were left behind,” according to information disclosed in SIGAR’s report ( Washington Free Beacon).
