With California’s recent unprecedented snowfall, it’s more clear than ever that we need climate action now.
We are already seeing the grave consequences of climate change in our state and beyond. As a doctor, I understand this is not only a threat to our nation’s infrastructure but also to the health of all Americans. There is no room for complacency in the fight to protect our planet.
I’ve helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act — the first significant investment in climate action in decades — into law. It is focused on reducing carbon emissions, cutting energy costs, creating good jobs — transforming our nation’s efforts to address the climate crisis.
If we fail to reduce our carbon emissions over the next few years, our goal of limiting climate change could be out of reach by the end of the decade.
But, John, too many of my Republican colleagues still refuse to admit climate change is a problem. The evidence is clear, especially after the heavy snowfall in the Golden State, but they don’t feel the need to take more action.
