*Legislative Campus Modernization Project Weekly Update*
WHAT'S NEW
Newhouse
Irving R. Newhouse Building
Crews will continue removing hazardous materials from the interior of the Newhouse Building and begin salvaging exterior Wilkeson sandstone and windows.
Salvage work will start on the Carolyn House that formerly housed members of the press. Material including old growth Douglas Fir will be preserved for use in the interior of the Newhouse replacement building. Salvage, starting with the roof, is the first step in deconstruction.
On the morning of March 13, a box that will provide temporary power to the construction site will be put in place using a forklift.
Contractors will build a temporary access road off Columbia Street Southwest through a portion of the construction site to lessen impacts on campus roads as building materials are delivered.
Expected impacts:
* *Traffic/Road Closures
*Sid Snyder: While the power box is being placed on the morning of March 13, traffic on Sid Snyder could be impacted for about five minutes. Flaggers will be on-site during this time.
* Columbia Street: No road closures are expected, but flaggers will be on-site when crews start the working on the access road.
* *Pedestrian
*Two sidewalks bordering the Newhouse building site are closed. Alternate routes are clearly marked. Sidewalks affected:
* North side of 15th Avenue Southwest
* West side of Columbia Street Southwest
* *Noise
*Minimal noise is expected.
* *Hours of operation
