John — Today is International Women’s Day, and I couldn’t let the day pass by without reflecting on what this day means to me at this pivotal moment in our city’s history. I stand on the shoulders of the powerful women who led before me, and I continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with a powerful coalition of women that I’m fortunate enough to work and serve alongside every day.

I’ve led a women’s-first agenda before I ever got into office. I did it with an army of moms and caretakers who were looking for safer communities, trying to hold on to their homes, fighting for the education of their kids, seeking the stability of a predictable work schedule – because it’s moms who are up in the middle of the night trying to find solutions.

Today, and everyday, I’m holding space for the generations of trailblazing women who have shaped Philadelphia’s history. There’s a strong legacy of fierce women and tough moms who have fought to make this city better for all of us. Moms get up in the morning and do everything they can to fix a really broken world – and we need that tenacity in City Hall.
