Partners in Wisconsin posited that if a referendum about a national
health insurance plan was put to voters in plain, descriptive language,
and avoided potentially polarizing phrases like Medicare for All and
single-payer, a majority of voters would approve it, even in a
significantly GOP-leaning rural county in Wisconsin.
An 11-point technique was developed and successful in receiving
unanimous approval, despite a Republican-led county board, to be put on
the ballot.
The experiment was a success at the ballot box, winning the majority of
the vote and outperforming Democratic candidates across the county. You
may have even heard about the success in Dunn County, Wisconsin, as the
victory gained national media attention.
ROCC is partnering with the engineers of this strategy and is utilizing
the documented technique as a model to implement in other counties
throughout Wisconsin as a tool to affect both short-term and long-term
goals: turning out additional voters and defeating partisan bias in
rural areas by leading directly on the issues themselves.
