U.N. Secretary-General: World is “300 Years Away” From Gender Equity And Women’s
Rights Are “Vanishing Before Our Eyes”
- March 6, 2023
John —
Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, we've been shouting from the rooftops —
even though sometimes it feels like shouting into the void. Now, the head
of the United Nations is speaking out for us too.
Just days before International Women’s Day, the U.N. Secretary-General
warned that decades of progress on women’s rights are being wiped away…
and he called out the rollback of reproductive rights.
This comes after nearly 200 worldwide human rights groups appealed to the
U.N. to intervene to protect abortion access in the US.
[ [link removed] ]It’s simple: Women cannot be free or equal without autonomy over our
own bodies and reproductive futures. This International Women’s Day, we’re
CONDEMNING the extremist efforts to take us backward. Sign on if you

International Women’s Day is a moment for us to reflect on the progress
and rights we’ve gained — and to remember that they have never come
without women speaking out and showing up, just like we do now.
So many of the everyday liberties we take for granted — even things as
simple as the right to open our own credit cards or breastfeed in public —
were only secured in the last few decades.
John, our
country was founded on the promise of freedom for all, but women have
always had to fight tooth and nail for the most basic rights. And now, our
fundamental freedom to make our own reproductive decisions has been
stripped away.
