John,

Today, we are proud to celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month.

As we commemorate the two, we honor the extraordinary contributions women have made throughout history and continue to make today. Women have been fighting for their rights and equality for centuries, and their struggles have paved the way for progress and change.

Yet we also recognize the challenges women still face in the fight for gender equity. Women are still paid less than men for the same work, they are underrepresented in politics and leadership, and they face barriers to accessing healthcare and reproductive rights. We stand with our sisters in the fight for true gender equality and pledge to continue our work towards achieving this.

In particular, we would like to take this opportunity to once again celebrate Pennsylvania State Representative and NPP Board Member Joanna McClinton for becoming the first woman Speaker of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives.

Her election was a giant step forward, and we are confident her leadership will not just break the glass ceiling, but truly advance women and the entire Commonwealth along the path to a better future.

In solidarity,

Team NPP

The New Pennsylvania Project was founded in May 2021 to expand Pennsylvania’s electorate, so it reflects the Commonwealth’s demographically changing population. In the next four years, NPP will engage and empower young residents and those living in underrepresented immigrant communities and communities of color. We register communities to vote, provide civic education about the issues that matter in their neighborhoods, and mobilize Pennsylvanians to vote in every election.
