Dear friend,
Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith took an oath to uphold the Constitution and be an impartial juror in the third Senate impeachment trial of a president in U.S. history.
And yet, no more than 24 hours before she placed her hand on the Bible and swore that oath, she was posting hyper-partisan tweets defending the president and pushing right-wing conspiracy theories. Those tweets continued after the trial officially began, with the Senator proclaiming, “As the impeachment hearings begin, I will be fighting for President Trump.” That’s far from impartial.
It’s no surprise that Hyde-Smith joined every Republican Senator in voting against allowing witnesses or hearing new, relevant evidence, going against precedence of prior impeachment trials in the past.
As Mississippi Today points out, it’s easy to see what’s going on here: after the president made multiple trips to our state in November 2018 to help put her over the finish line, “Hyde-Smith is emboldened by the hyper-partisan moment and is working hard to repay the man who solidified her place in Washington.”
I firmly believe the people of Mississippi, and the American people as a whole, deserve a Senator who’s willing to do their job and uphold their Constitutional duty, regardless of party loyalty.
That’s what I’d do, and that’s why I’m asking: will you make a contribution of any amount today to support our campaign to remove Hyde-Smith from office and give Mississippi the leadership it deserves this November?

Together, we can hold Hyde-Smith accountable for putting her party leader before the people she was elected to represent.
Thank you,
Mike
