Friend, today is International Women’s Day. It’s a day to celebrate the inherent strength of every woman and girl – while also acknowledging the work that still needs to be done to achieve health, safety, and prosperity for all.
Your International Women’s Day donation could help women like Buseyna, who was forced to flee her home in Adıyaman, Türkiye, after her city was decimated by February’s massive earthquake. Buseyna, heavily pregnant, traveled over 50 miles before stumbling upon a UNFPA women and girl’s safe space where the trained staff helped Buseyna safely give birth to her baby girl. After recovering, UNFPA provided Buseyna with a mama kit filled with supplies to care for her newborn in the midst of the evolving emergency.
Your International Women’s Day donation could help women like Firoza, who began to hemorrhage on the operating table of her local family health house after delivering twin babies. The midwife who was treating her knew that she was out of her expertise and didn’t hesitate to call the UNFPA hotline, which is staffed around the clock with experienced OB/GYNs and midwives. While on the hotline, the midwife was able to stop the bleeding, stabilize Firoza, and keep the newborn twins healthy until they could travel to a larger health facility.
Your International Women’s Day donation could help women like Maria, who lived through the horrific experience of being raped and brutalized by soldiers in Rwanda. The soldiers left Maria bleeding to death – but by a stroke of fate, a medical team found Maria and brought her to the hospital for emergency care. After her physical body healed, UNFPA provided Maria with mental health counseling so she could begin to process the trauma that she experienced.
