Normally, a utility files for a rate hike and goes through a series of hearings called a rate case to determine if, and how much it will go up (and it almost always goes up).
But this time, they messed up. The same negligence behind NYSEG & RG&E’s billing errors extends their own filing for a rate hike. It’s so riddled with errors, unjustified capital expenditures, and lacking in basic info that it cannot be accepted.
NYSEG & RG&E are both subsidiaries of Avangrid, a multibillion dollar corporation. If they can’t even be bothered to provide the fiscal information required by law, our State regulators should not entertain their exorbitant request.
But while we’re confident we have the law behind us, that’s not enough. We need people power too.
