I recently spoke at a Democratic club meeting during their endorsement process. As I made my case to be the next Representative for NY-10, I mentioned that my opponent, Rep. Nadler, had only passed three pieces of his own legislation into law in almost thirty years in office. Two of those pieces of enacted legislation were ceremonial.

After I spoke, congressional staffer Robert Gottheim took the mic on behalf of Rep. Nadler - who was not there. He proceeded to call me a “disgusting liar” who “doesn’t know what she’s talking about” and “doesn’t know how Congress works.”

His ugly, dismissive language of me aside, let me tell you what I know about how Congress works. Simply put, IT DOESN’T.

According to Gallup, almost 75% of people disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job. The old way of passively signing your name to someone else’s bill as a co-sponsor isn’t cutting it for our district anymore.

I’m an insurgent going up against a longtime incumbent, I know endorsements are a long shot. But I will not be intimidated by Robert Gottheim or anyone else. As I’ve said before, that won’t stop me from showing up to speak with people across the district. It only motivates me more.
