Friend, this is pretty simple. In Congress, we should be fighting for the regular Americans whose needs so often go overlooked in the halls of power. That’s why I entered public service in the first place — and it’s why I’m so proud to represent Colorado’s 7th District in the House of Representatives. But far too often, we’ve seen politicians put the wellbeing of their own stock portfolios before what’s best for the American people. It’s an outrageous conflict of interest that we’ve tolerated for too long, and it’s time for that to end. That’s why I’m supporting bipartisan legislation to ban members of Congress from trading stocks. And if you agree with me, I’d love to have you join me — because the only way this gets done is with a huge public outpouring of support.
Everywhere I go in Colorado, I encounter folks who are fed up with the corruption and self-dealing of politics in Washington. And I completely agree: it’s infuriating to see some of the same wealthy and powerful politicians who engage in questionable stock trades turn right around and oppose basic legislation to help working folks, like paid leave or an increase in the federal minimum wage.
Thank you, Brittany Pettersen
