Friend,
Today, we celebrate International Women’s Day and the achievements women have made across the world to make the future brighter and bring hope to us all.
I’d like to highlight the achievements women made in Michigan this past year. Women’s futures were on the line for the 2022 Midterm election and women showed up to the polls.
In November, Michigan women voted at higher rates in the midterm election, especially young women who had a 37% voter turnout rate, which is almost a 10% increase from 2018.
We’ve had an increase in women lawmakers this past year as well. Currently, in the Michigan legislature, 40% of officeholders are women. Looking nationally, the 118th Congress has a record number of women making up more than a quarter of all members. Women are driving change by running for office and closing the gender gap.
Today, we honor the women who are showing up and making great achievements across the country, and I have no doubt we will keep up the fight for gender equality.
Thank you for your continued support,
Debbie
