Coming off Black History Month, today, International Women's Day, is a special occasion to recognize the unique accomplishments of women of color both home and abroad. From home security systems to work leading to the invention of caller IDs to becoming Vice President, and that’s just the beginning. Women of color have led the charge and today, and frankly every day, that contribution should be recognized and celebrated.  

Every year, this day offers an opportunity to recognize the courage, resilience, and strength that women bring to the table, as well as a reminder of how much work still needs to be done. So my sisters and brothers, join me in celebrating the power of women today, and every day during Women’s History Month!

The first African-American woman in Wisconsin history to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congresswoman Gwen Moore, took her official oath of office on

January 4, 2005. She served in the Wisconsin State Senate from 1993-2004. Before her

election to the Senate, Congresswoman Moore served two consecutive terms in the

Wisconsin State Assembly from 1989-92.
